The puppy was discovered in New Haven County around 12 p.m. on Saturday, July 8, in the hamlet of Fair Haven, said Capt. Rose Dell, of the New Haven Police.
Dell said two officers on patrol found the puppy in the crate on Poplar Street. An investigation was started with the help of Animal Control officers who discovered the puppy had been shot.
The dog, now known as Justice, was transported to a local veterinary hospital, where his injuries were deemed consistent with a gunshot wound.
A full necropsy was scheduled to be conducted to uncover additional information.
At this time, Desmond’s Army, an animal rights organization, has stepped forward and offered a reward of $3,000 for any information that can lead to the arrest of the person responsible for the death of Justice, Dell said.
New Haven Police are urging the public to come forward with any information that can help the investigation.

"In addition to this heartbreaking incident, Animal Control is finding more and more abandoned animals that are hurt, neglected, and in desperate need of medical care," Dell said.
